Action (1935) 257 Minutes ~ Black & White

The story opens in Africa where three explorers – Major Martling. His lovely daughter Ula Vale and mercenary PB Raglan-are preparing separate expeditions into the jungles of Guatemala. They are all in search of a jewel-encrusted statue known as the “green Goddess.” The figurine is not only priceless but also holds an ancient secret for a super-explosive formula. Aboard their ship. Martling and vale meet Lord Greystoke (aka Tarzan) on his own mission to rescue an old friend, d’Arnot, whose plane crashed in the Guatemalan jungle. The three must contend with the jungle’s perils and primitive natives to save d’Arnot and grab the Green Goddess before the sinister Raglan can discover it first. Tarzan aficionados will love the story behind the making of this classic. Edgar Rice Burroughs, the creator of Tarzan, produced The New Adventures of Tarzan as a twelve-episode serial released in 1935. In an effort for authenticity, the serial was filmed largely on location in Guatemala where the story takes place. Burroughs cast Herman Brix as the lead.
